Review: Moxie's Grill & Bar, Richmond

It's Therese's birthday, and she always chooses a casual dining pub to have lunch or dinner with the family.
  • Three years ago (2016), we went to Cactus Club Cafe
  • Two years ago (2017), we went to Earls Kitchen + Bar Restaurants
  • Last year (2018), we had Romer's Burger Bar
  • This year (2019), we went to Moxie's Grill & Bar

Moxie's Grill & Bar

First, I love the service! Our server, Jessica, is friendly and she didn't hover around us as other waitresses do at other places.

Second, I like the ambiance. Since we went there on Saturday for lunch, it's practically empty except for two other tables. We had fun catching up. It's been a while (Christmas?) since we're all together sharing a meal. It's great to spend time together.

Lastly, the food is okay. I won't be coming back for the food, that's for sure. For appetizers, dad ordered Calamari and Tableside Fresh Smashed Guacamole which is amusing and fun to eat. Jessica smashed the avocado in front of us. It's an unexpected experience.

For the main course, dad and Alyanna ordered from the Brunch Menu, specifically Steak & Eggs and Classic Breakfast with Sausage, respectively. Therese and Jomar had a medium rare Sirloin with Stuffed Potato. Meanwhile, Hovey chose The Burger with Fries while I picked the Portobello Veggie Burger with Sweet Potato Fries. Lastly, mom got the Prawn Linguine pasta.

I didn't like the Veggie burger. I have tried the Veggie burger from Cactus Club, Earls, and Romer's Burger and this is the worse of the list. I didn't expect it to be just Portobello mushroom between buns. There are tomatoes and shredded lettuce in it as well, but it didn't elevate the dish. The cheese did help.

I also got to try Jomar's Sirloin and Stuffed Baked Potato. The Sirloin is excellent, though, I don't think I'm the best person to say that because I'm not a fan of steak. I did enjoy the Stuffed Baked Potato because it's almost impossible to ruin a potato.

There you have my review of Moxie's Grill and Bar. I can't wait to see where Therese would like to celebrate her future birthdays and her graduation.
