Top 12 Moments of 2021

I am writing this year-end post on the last day of the year, and I am unsure how to present a summary of my 2021. So I checked Google Photos to see what moments I captured and decided to choose 12 things we did, and that happened this year that I'll treasure.

For future me who might read this, we were still in a pandemic in 2021. So we can go out, but you both are still working from home.

1. Seasons

Actually, the four seasons should count as four memories, but I am grouping them into one. We had snow around February and more snow (than usual) in December. Walking in the snow, picnicking during summer, and the beautiful colours of spring and fall truly made me appreciate living in Canada.

2. Canadian Citizenship

I don't think I have any good pictures of my oath-taking as a Canadian Citizen since it was done over a video call, but it's definitely one of the top moments of this year. I will apply for a Canadian passport soon!

3. COVID-19 Vaccine

Jomar and I (and both our families) got vaccinated from COVID-19.

Yay for getting vaccinated and keeping our communities safe.

4. Thank Granville It's Food trucks (TGIF)

Every Friday and Saturday, different food trucks park near our home all summer long. To say that Jomar and I pigged out and gained weight will be an understatement.

5. My Bridges Memory

One of the restaurants in Granville Island closed last summer for renovations and will reopen under new management and as part of a bigger chain.

During their last weekend open, we had lunch there to enjoy their food and the view one last time.

The Bridges Restaurant has one of the best patios on Granville Island.

6. Trip to Victoria, BC

Yes! We visited one new city in Canada this year. I call that a win. I wrote three blog posts about our trip and a few more about the food.

7. HelloFresh

I have been cooking meals at home with the help of HelloFresh. They deliver weekly groceries based on the recipes you picked. The delivery includes easy-to-follow instructions for each meal. It completely changed the number of times we visit the grocery, and we're surprisingly eating more vegetables because of it.

8. Anniversaries

Jomar and I celebrated 10 years of being a couple this year, our fourth wedding anniversary and our second Catholic wedding anniversary. As a surprise, Jomar ordered three roses for our anniversary.

9. Canadian Thanksgiving

To celebrate Thanksgiving this year, I ordered a HelloFresh Thanksgiving box which includes all the ingredients we need. Then, the family spent 4 hours cooking everything.

10. Whitecaps FC at BC Place

I can't believe I watched the Whitecaps FC TWICE in person at BC Place. It's crazy! Full dramatic story here.

11. Filipino-organized Events

We participated in two events this December organized by Filipino in Vancouver. We purchased a lot of Filipino food from the Magkasama Christmas Market 2021 and at Maligayang Pasko, Vancouver 2021.

12. Christmas

Christmas Eve dinner and opening gifts at midnight is a family tradition. This year we had Korean BBQ and side dishes at home.

Exploring Cineplex in Vancouver

When Jomar and I got married 6 months ago, we agreed to watch a movie at the cinema once a month (minimum). For the 5 of those 6 months, we have been watching movies at Cineplex Cinemas Marine Gateway and VIP. This month we decided to watch at Fifth Avenue Cinemas. First one inside the theater! Fifth Avenue Cinemas As the name implies, this cinema is at 5th Avenue corner Burrard. Walking distance (if you like walking) to both home and work. This location is restricted to age 19+ because they serve alcohol at the Licensed Bar and Lounge. Licensed Lounge Theater There are 5 in this location and the one we went to is smaller than I expected and it's ground level. The seats were low. April date Food and Snack I was disappointed by the food offering. I don't know but I was expecting it to have as many food choices as they have in their Marine branch but they only serve like 9 items and even the snack bar didn't have Outtakes - only popcorn. RBC Run for the Kids 2023 | Fundraising for BC Children's Hospital

I have a confession to make. I love supporting the BC Children's Hospital but don't particularly enjoy running. For someone who has been overweight her whole life, running is just a non-starter (for the most part). However, I married Jomar, who runs a half-marathon twice a year, and he looked so proud after I did my first 5km run last year , so I decided to attend the event, and I'm glad I did. Before the 5km fun run We grabbed the free shirt, bib, and challenger cape from Nat Bailey's parking lot yesterday. Then, we took two buses to get to Riley Park today. I joined the stretching with Team RBC Athletes (I can't remember how they're "branded" by RBC), and off we go. My time last year was better (because when you're married to a runner, you care about the time), but I did enjoy this year's run better. ...
