Day 10 of PH Wedding Vacation: Layover at Narita International Airport

Image
We're finally in Japan and on our way to Canada. This time we have more time to roam around and decide where to eat (unlike our layover coming from Canada). We walked the whole airport (at least the area we have access to) and checked out places that serve Katsu Curry and Ramen. Somehow, we ended up having a meal at Yoshinoya. Eating Katsu Curry in Japan Enjoying a bowl of ramen in Japan After our meal and while walking to our boarding gate, we purchased a bunch of Kitkat with unique flavours. I think this is where I will end my series of blog posts about our trip to the Philippines. Sorry, it took three months to share them here. As soon as we got to Vancouver, we went straight home. I ordered Indian food using SkipTheDishes and cooked some rice for our lunch and dinner. We went back to work the following morning. It's great to back!

Layover in Taiwan

Image
We have a 4-hour layover in Taiwan. What did we do in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport? We walked around Terminal 2 and visited the Hello Kitty boarding gate. Jomar saw new Kit-Kat flavour which he purchased. We also had dinner in Mos Burger which is a fast-food restaurant chain that originated in Japan. It's pretty good. Now, I feel guilty that I didn't try McDonald's and check out the unique burgers they have in Taiwan. Year of the Pig! Flying Pigs Hello Kitty! Mos Burger Giant Dumpling Steamer Review of China Airlines We booked China Airlines because it was the cheapest flight for the days we need to be in Manila. The layover hours were not too long plus I've never been to Taiwan. Booking was convenient, the check-in process was natural, and the staff were friendly. The food exceeded my expectation. I daresay it's better than All Nihonggo Airlines (which I thought had fantastic food) but not at par with Singapore Airlines

Vacation: Travel Back to Canada

Image
I write this in the comforts of my home back in Canada. My mom and siblings are all home and busy eating the Goldilocks goodies I got for myself. It's great to be back in Canada! Manila I woke up at 2:00 AM (Manila time) on Sunday and I didn't want to get up. I don't want to leave. It's more than leaving Philippines. It's leaving Jomar and my life here. Alas, I had to face the reality that I have decided to immigrate two years ago to be with my family. with Jomar As we head to the airport, I was quiet. We hugged just outside Terminal 1. The guard told us that there's a section in the departure area where family members and friends can stay and wait. I asked Jomar to stay there while I check in. There was a long line and after checking in I was informed by the lady at the counter that I had to go to the travel tax counter. I walked there and they photocopied my Canadian PR card and gave me a receipt. I didn't had to pay anything. Pinoy Breakf

Vacation: Beijing Layover

Image
I arrived at Beijing a few minutes after 1:00 PM (Local Time). The 10-hour flight was tiring. I remember why I disliked flying trans-pacific. During the flight, I watched The Lego Batman Movie, played in-flight games (Luxor and Suduko), and watched Beauty and The Beast (Emma Watson is so beautiful). Plane Food from YVR to PEK Layover Highlights First, the WiFi access is challenging to get but possible. Second, there's a special line for those in transit. Lastly, the best way to check if you have internet connection is to go to Yahoo.com, yes, Yahoo. All of your Google services, Facebook, and Twitter won't work. Even the GPS of your mobile device will not work. Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) What I did in my six hours in Terminal 3 of PEK? As soon as I got to the departure floor of Terminal 3, the first thing I did was find the currency exchange to have my limited Canadian dollar changed to Chinese Yuan. Then... I went shopping around for key cha

Vacation: YVR to PEK

I am writing this at the airport while waiting for my flight from Vancouver, Canada to Beijing, China. I have a 6-hour layover in Beijing before my flight to my dearest Manila, Philippines. I am excited to see friends and of course, Jomar. I am looking forward to all the Filipino food that I miss back home. A few days ago, Gordon (CEO of Gumstix ) asked where I was going for my vacation. I said, "I am going back home." I, honestly, did not expect his response, "But this is your home." If you've been reading this blog (I doubt people read this but oh well), you would notice that I have a love-hate relationship with Canada and as much as it has become a home the past almost 2 years, Philippines will always have a special place in my heart. I don't know. Maybe this feeling will be gone after a decade of living outside of the country but right now, all I know is I miss home every day. I read this post from a fellow immigrant (I think she's fr

Layover in Haneda Airport: Food, Love, and Experience

Image
As I was planning my migration to Canada, one of the decisions I had to make was deciding on which airline I would ride going to Vancouver because there's just so many options like length of flight (this is in terms of hours inside the plane) and the layover should be in a country I've never been to. After searching and assessing airlines, I chose to fly with ANA (All Nippon Airways). The longest flight would be 9 hours from Tokyo to Vancouver. I've never been to Japan plus I love Japanese cuisine so I could finally say, I had Japanese Curry (Kare) in Japan (even if it's just inside the airport). View my Google+ Story through this link . Last Meal in the Philippines Only meal in Japan (Japanese Curry) First Photo in Canada

My South Korea Experience

Image
From March 21-24, I was enjoying the cold weather of South Korea. Instead of writing paragraph after paragraph explaining what I saw, what I ate, and the full experience, here's a Google+ Story about my trip. Jomar and I are wacky in this picture! Thanks for capturing this moment Mama Chelle.

How to Apply for a South Korea Visa in the Philippines?

This post is one of the most viewed posts in this blog. Please note that I wrote this in 2014 and information may not be applicable anymore. Thank you! I've been to South Korea last October 2011. It was my first travel out of the country with friends. It was great! This year (2014), Jomar and I with our GDG friends (Mitch, Wayne, and Mama Chelle) are planning to go to South Korea for vacation. Process of Submission Jomar and I submitted the VISA application requirements last January 29, 2014: Application Form One piece of Passport size coloured picture (we went to Picture City and asked for Korean VISA size photo) - this should be attached to your application form Original Passport (should be valid for more than six months) Photocopy of Passport Bio-page (page 2) Original and photocopy of valid visa/s and arrival stamps to OECD member countries for the past five years (if applicable, and Korean Visas is not counted) Original Certificate of Employment (with contact nu

My First Plane Ride: Hong Kong

Image
The first time I was able to ride the plane was the year 2004. Our family is going to Hong Kong for a 3-day vacation. It was the first time I saw an airplane up close and as a teenager going up in a developing country - it's like a dream country. Below is the summary of what I remember from a trip that happened almost ten years ago: Eating hot noodles in one of the small eateries in Hong Kong. They served it in such big bowls! Having breakfast in McDonald's and was seriously shocked that they don't serve fries - they still have hash browns though. I was shopping galore at a Giordano shop which was on a 50%-off sale. Mother was asking a stranger for directions in Filipino - as it turns out the person she's talking to is from Malaysia. Riding the cable car in Ocean Park Riding the train which goes through the sea - seriously scary. I imagined a movie when the tunnel would collapse Going to their market and buying souvenirs Staying in a beautiful hotel Cold weath

Vacation in South Korea

Image
Last October 7 to 10, 2011, I was given a chance to visit South Korea. I was able to see a glimpse of Seoul, Busan (Pusan), and Daegu. I will share our planned and actual itinerary, budget and actual spending, places I suggest you see based on what I saw, and food to try. For this vacation, I was with current and former office mates. Day 1 - October 7, 2011 Our flight with Cebu Pacific departed Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, Manila, the Philippines bound for Gimhae International Airport, Busan (Pusan), South Korea and was 15 minutes delayed. I would say that as compared to my flights with Philippine Airlines (PAL) during my US and Hong Kong trip, CebuPac was way far better even if there are delays. We left at around 4:30 pm and arrived in Busan at 9:30 pm because of the time difference. It seems that the flight is 5 hours long, even if it was only 4 hours! Oh, before I forget I highly recommend the Ham and Cheese Croissant for P100.
