Travel Apps

There are so many travel apps out there from before, during, and after you travel and on this page, I'll make a list of apps I usually use when I go.

Before (Planning Stage)

  • Google will always be your friend when searching for places to visit.
  • I use Skyscanner when searching for flights to get an idea on available airlines and price range, but I usually buy on the airline website.
  • I use Agoda when searching for hotel names in an area. I also booked my hotels there or sometimes on the hotel website depending on what's cheaper.
  • I haven't tried Airbnb, but I heard it's incredible, so I'll give it a shot on my next trip.
  • Foursquare (bit bias since it's my fave app) for restaurants to try
  • I usually trust travel blogs more when figuring out what is available in a city and of course the local tourism website if it's available.
During
  • I use Google Camera when taking photos because it allows me to take 360 degrees photosphere shots. (Plus, I use a Nexus 5.) Plus, all my photos are automatically uploaded privately in Google Photos.
  • Swarm by Foursquare will always be my fave check-in app. It allows me to remember where I've been with a check-in, short caption, and a photo.
  • I rarely share on Facebook when I travel but, yes I guess Facebook could be included here as well.
Trivia: I don't use Instagram, and I am not active on Twitter; that's why they are not part of this list.

After
  • Google Photos. I don't need to transfer any of my photos or be worried about it getting lost. I don't even have to worry about creating an album because Google Photos automatically creates a Google Plus Story which you can share in your social media accounts. It's great after traveling and when you want to relieve and go back to those moments.
  • Maploco.com - this app was a recommendation in a travel Facebook group. It allows you to highlight countries or state or provinces on a map. Check it out.
  • FlightDiary.Net - this app allows you to record your flight and it will prepare a dashboard of reports about your flight history (my fave data: apparently, I fly more during October - I didn't know about that). Check it ou
  • Google Maps - I have a private Google Maps highlighting cities or town I've visited
  • Your blog - if you maintain a blog, it's time for you to update it and share your latest adventure.

Places to Visit in Ilocos Sur

Ilocos Sur in the Ilocos Region of the Philippines was one of our stops during our Ilocandia Exploration. Here's a list of places we've visited in Ilocos Sur. Calle Crisologo It was my dream to see what a town or street that is a glimpse of what the Philippines looked like during the Spanish time. From the photos I see online, the best place to achieve this dream is to see and visit Vigan City personally which was our first stop during the trip. Walking in Calle Crisologo did feel like I was transported to the past, during the Spanish Era to be exact. Too bad I was only using the camera from my Samsung Galaxy Tab that I can't capture the view I am looking at during that moment.

My fave fish and chips in Vancouver

Fish and Chips is not popular (at least I don't think so) in the Philippines. However, on my second day in Canada, my parents brought Jomar and I to Pajo's in Steveston, Richmond to try exactly that. I was surprised at how big the portions were and well, you can never go wrong with fries, especially if it's unlimited and you can come back for more. Also, I have always liked salmon (whether raw, grilled, or in a soup) and seeing and eating it in deep fried goodness was amazing. Tony's Last Friday, Jomar and I went to my favorite fish and chips place in Vancouver so far - Tony's Fish and Oyster Cafe located near the entrance of Granville Island.
